{"id":4266,"date":"2025-02-16T18:31:48","date_gmt":"2025-02-16T17:31:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/verwaltungsgestaltung.de\/notizen\/?p=4266"},"modified":"2025-04-13T19:55:21","modified_gmt":"2025-04-13T17:55:21","slug":"week-146-at-the-digital-service-notes-for-10-14-february-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/verwaltungsgestaltung.de\/notizen\/2025\/02\/16\/week-146-at-the-digital-service-notes-for-10-14-february-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Week #146 at the Digital Service: Notes for 10\u201314 February 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\u2018Introduction to Service Design\u2019 is back!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-h-3-font-size\">Running service design training again<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After a 1-year break, the 1-day training returned \u2013 split over 2 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some 16 colleagues from different delivery backgrounds joined: designers, product managers, software engineers, transformation managers, and user researchers. It was precisely the diverse makeup we were hoping for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sabrina and Marco ran the training while I helped with a section and was around for some hours. Sabrina and I ran it back in 2022 and 2023, while Marco was new to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marco would have observed first, <a href=\"https:\/\/designnotes.blog.gov.uk\/2022\/04\/04\/how-we-run-service-design-training-as-an-agile-service\/\">following our established train-the-trainer approach<\/a>, then run it. In this case, we leapfrogged things a bit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The training was once again well received. Some of the questions asked looked all too familiar:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How to get started with service design?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How do you break down big complex services into smaller parts?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is service design UX design minus UI design?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How do you prototype services?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How is service design done in other parts of the German public sector right now?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"bluesky-embed\" data-bluesky-uri=\"at:\/\/did:plc:cmith4m3qzwqeocqn2ptgwft\/app.bsky.feed.post\/3lhvuxeeij22u\" data-bluesky-cid=\"bafyreibdexweflssjlmlzbj2gt4d37rskjwtbj4h3zzyc5fwkmrnbclc4a\"><p lang=\"en\">It\u2019s back: Introduction to #ServiceDesign training is happening again at @digitalservice.bund.de.\n\nMy colleagues Sabrina &amp; @raabsolutely.bsky.social are running it in 2 parts today and tomorrow.\n\nSo far, we\u2019ve run it internally, but we plan to expand it to other parts of the German government soon.<br><br><a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/did:plc:cmith4m3qzwqeocqn2ptgwft\/post\/3lhvuxeeij22u?ref_src=embed\">[image or embed]<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Martin Jordan (<a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/did:plc:cmith4m3qzwqeocqn2ptgwft?ref_src=embed\">@martinjordan.com<\/a>) <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/did:plc:cmith4m3qzwqeocqn2ptgwft\/post\/3lhvuxeeij22u?ref_src=embed\">February 11, 2025 at 3:35 PM<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/embed.bsky.app\/static\/embed.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<p>We plan not to lose momentum. For a longer while, we knew a German version would be handy. Finally, we want to get to it. Before summer, we want to create a German-language version that\u2019s localised with more examples from Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More local content makes it easier for training participants to relate and more straightforward to transfer the concepts to their work contexts the next day. The primary audience for the training is our ministerial project partners. A secondary audience is other colleagues in government ministries, agencies and potentially public sector IT suppliers and digital outcome providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There could be a great benefit in broadening the perspectives of other like-minded people in government and supporting them in working on their projects towards some end-to-end service journeys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the mid-term, I could imagine us listing the training with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalakademie.bund.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">federal government\u2019s Digitalakademie<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-h-3-font-size\">Presenting to the Digital Council<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Early last summer, I was appointed to the Digital Council of the Federal State of Sachsen-Anhalt. Since then, I looked for an opportunity to talk about our work and approach we take at Digital Service. That opportunity materialised this week. I got about a quarter of the 2-hour slot for an exchange on user centricity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I gave an input with a plain title: \u2018Involve users \u2013 develop better offerings\u2019. But that is something that will only be evidenced in the council&#8217;s coming meetings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-h-3-font-size\">Unpicking a party\u2019s app sketch<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahead of the elections, the Green party published on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deutschlandapp.org\/\">deutschlandapp.org<\/a> to present their policy objective and investment focus. The so-called \u2018DeutschlandApp\u2019 is mentioned in their party manifesto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/martinjordan.com\/post\/3lhy2pidjps2v\">In a slightly ranty thread<\/a> I took a look. The most apparent thing: Once it gets interesting on the third layer of the app demo, it stops and asks the user to vote for the Greens. That layer would have been the most relevant one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sketch takes a quite conservative route by still retaining a form-based interaction model with the state instead of setting the goal to build proactive services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"bluesky-embed\" data-bluesky-uri=\"at:\/\/did:plc:cmith4m3qzwqeocqn2ptgwft\/app.bsky.feed.post\/3lhy75xgod22v\" data-bluesky-cid=\"bafyreidjvx6udgeliyhu6coss65gdk4cqmyimoc3tcj5iofckguhv4gflq\" data-bluesky-embed-color-mode=\"system\"><p lang=\"en\">While no service views are included, a list of applications is. \n\nIt shows a confirmed status for parental benefits and birth certificate. No other party put something similar together. That shows some commitment to shaping digital public services. One wishes party officials on a higher level would engage deeper with opportunity and constraints. Maybe we can get there in the end.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-h-3-font-size\">What\u2019s next<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Next week, I will familiarise myself with the current state of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitale-verwaltung.de\/Webs\/DV\/DE\/aktuelles-service\/digitale_dachmarke\/digitale_dachmarke-node.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">government\u2019s new-ish umbrella brand<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahead of the election, I will finish a draft for the SZ Digitaldossier, to which I was invited to contribute right before the election.
