It even included a person working in Canada\u2019s provincial government of Ontario. So I\u2019ve sent some out, adding a few of our stickers, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sharing artefacts and documentation of approaches and principles in printed form is also part of the digital transformation job. I remember how&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HarryTrimble\/status\/770914720094285824\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Harry spotted Lou\u2019s \u2018Good services are verbs\u2019 poster in the Danish government\u2019s MindLab<\/a>&nbsp;a few years back. Making things openly available via GitHub and other platforms allows people to build on your work and messages and use them to support their efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following last week\u2019s publication of the translated accessibility poster on dyscalculia, Craig, the UK\u2019s Department for Work and Pensions former Head of Accessibility, merged my fork. Hence,&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/abbott567\/dyscalculia-poster\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the German poster version is now more discoverable from his more central repository<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">You can find the PDF version of the poster for download on GitHub with all of their research summaries:<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/iM4PwL6ivP\">https:\/\/t.co\/iM4PwL6ivP<\/a><br><br>And read more about their work on the \u2018Design in Government\u2019 blog: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3J7qyYU4GB\">https:\/\/t.co\/3J7qyYU4GB<\/a><br><br>2\/3<\/p>&mdash; Martin Jordan ? ? @martinjordan@mastodon.social (@Martin_Jordan) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Martin_Jordan\/status\/1615366838896017410?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 17, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-h-3-font-size wp-block-heading\">Sorting things out, getting things out<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Getting closer to February and the start of our new trimester objectives cycle, Christian, Magdalena, and I started drafting our cross-discipline objectives and some key results (OKRs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, they include 1 objective about making teams at the DigitalService adopt the&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.onlinezugangsgesetz.de\/Webs\/OZG\/DE\/grundlagen\/servicestandard\/servicestandard-node.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">German government\u2019s Service Standard<\/a>. It feels like a no-brainer, especially as Tech4Germany has been on its sounding board and made a supporting commitment earlier. I started drafting a related blog post, which I am co-authoring with my product colleague Debbie and transformation colleague Caro. We aim to publish it in February and want to show how we\u2019ve been using the standard so far and our commitment to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another drafted objective is to make DigitalService a more visible employer and strengthen its brand. For that, we need more outward-facing activities, artefacts, and formats. One related thing in the making is new discipline pages. I made progress with the one for design and research. I want it to become the home of our communication around the discipline and for attracting talent. It will give an overview of what we do and how we work, our user-centred design (UCD) approaches, and how we organise ourselves. It should reference blog posts, interviews, open roles, and upcoming events. For new UCD roles, I want the first version of the page online in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new physical touchpoint with Digital Service will be a little booklet that Daphne is designing, which we reviewed earlier this week. It is a collection of Christina\u2019s columns written for the public sector newspaper \u2018Beh\u00f6rden Spiegel\u2019 \u2013 where they don\u2019t get the traction they could get, I believe. So we\u2019d like to make Christina\u2019s texts on the digital transformation of the public sector available to more readers by putting them together in a well-designed little booklet. I felt inspired by looking at\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newspaperclub.com\/choose\/mini\" target=\"_blank\">Newspaper Club\u2019s minis<\/a>, \u201ca booklet-sized newspaper [\u2026] stapled and trimmed like a magazine\u201d, as they say. With 7 columns written and 12 in total, we will make it 2 separate publications. One should arrive in February, the second one in late summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also going into print soon, at least I hope, is the next\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/instagram.com\/servicegazette\" target=\"_blank\">Service Gazette<\/a>, our 8-year-old newspaper for service innovators. This week, I <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/public-service-lab\/bitte-keine-tiernamen-b8cc65c9df54\">published the first story ahead of the print version<\/a> on Medium. The German public sector gets some things right, but using animals as service names isn\u2019t one of those. So I\u2019m commenting on that and making a few suggestions on how to name public services well. With the growing team, I\u2019ve sketched a few sub-formats that should allow us to scale, utilise everyone\u2019s knowledge better and keep things interesting. In addition, our weekly design discipline meeting will sync with its engineering and product meeting siblings from February, so team meetings are much less likely to clash with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-h-3-font-size wp-block-heading\">What\u2019s next<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Next week, I\u2019ll be in London and working from there. Then, I\u2019ll catch up with Kara and Paloma at GDS to plan international community activities for the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apart from the mentioned blog post on the application of the Service Standard, there\u2019s another post on community work and its importance I\u2019m writing.
