Meetup: Public Service Design

An event space with a woman presenting in front of a larger group of seated people, behind her is large projected screen, saying ‘We want to modernize the German justice system together with the Bund and the federal states.’

At Service Design Drinks Berlin’s end-of-year event on 4 December 2024, 2 of my colleagues, Charlotte and Marlene, joined as speakers.

The topic of the evening was ‘Designing the Future of Public Services’. It was hosted by CityLAB Berlin.

The talks were recorded, yet it took a while to edit and publish them.

Principal UX designer Charlotte Vorbeck gave a talk about transforming government with co-design.

Senior designer Marlene Kettner gave a talk on user-centred methods in the context of justice services and their application to the digital legal application office.

It’s the third time in 3 years that we have had the chance to present our work in this format. Previously, in 2022, service designer Sabrina Feuerherd spoke about her work on digital-ready legislation at the Service Design Drinks Berlin meetup. In summer 2024, accessibility designer Marion shared her work on making government services more accessible.

The interest in our work seems persistent, and beyond our own format, it’s great to engage with a broader community of people interested in service design in complex environments.
